Local Projects
Some of the annual local projects of the Rome Rotary Club include:
- Roses-for-the-Living - an annual award given by Rome Rotary to an outstanding community volunteer who benefits the Rome area. This year the awards dinner will be celebrated June 9, 2009 at the Beeches Restaurant.
- Healthcare Professional of the Year - an annual award given by Rome Rotary to an outstanding healthcare professional who has demonstrated commitment to his or her profession and community with dignity, respect, excellence, intergity and compassion. Submit a nomination form to our Secretary.
- Student Scholarships - awarded to community service-oriented local students. To apply get the application instructions.
- Teacher of the Year - a teacher is recognized each year and is given a monetary award to assist him or her with a classroom project.
- 4th of July Community Ceremony - at the Tomb of the Unknown Revolutionary War Soldiers
- Canalfest - a family - oriented festival with entertainment, food, fun, and fireworks held at Bellamy Park on the historic Erie Canal.
- Halloween Parade and Party - ensuring a safe and memorable celebration for children, see 2009 photos
- International Students Day - an opportunity for international students from local colleges to spend a day in Rome and meet with Rome Rotarians, see 2009 photos
- Auction Fund Raiser - an event to raise money for the annual children's Christmas party. The approximately $4000. raised will go towards hats, coats, mittens, blankets and a gift for over a hundred local children., see 2009 photos
- Meal deliveries on Christmas Day and Thanksgiving Day - from the Rome Welcome Hall to area shut-ins.
- 90th Anniversary Celebration - Rome Rotary celebrated 90 years of service on 1 December 2009, download the Program also see photos
- Christmas Party for Children - Disadvantaged children receive a coat, hat, boots, gloves, a toy or two, and a personal visit with Santa, see 2009 photos
- Christmas Party for the Elderly - at the Residential Nursing Facility at the Rome Memorial Hospital. see photos
- Winter Party - Rome Rotary conducts a social activity for members and guests sometime during winter. This year the theme was Mardi Gras. See photos
- Literacy projects - promoting literacy among our students, providing thesauruses or dictionaries, or tutoring
