Announcements and Events

They still need judges for the Rome Academy of Science Fair on March 6th at RFA.  Please see Dave Kobernuss if you can help.

There is a District Membership/Foundation meeting in Utica at the Blue Flag Room on February 24 at 5:30 p.m.

The Thursday After Hours dinner at the Vigneto (formerly The Plaza) was very enjoyable and a good time was had by all in attendance.  Mark your calendars for "The Cozy Cabin"(West Rome) at 6:30 pm on March 18 for the next Thursday After Hours dinner – all Rotarians are invited.   A reminder:  The Thursday After Hours meeting is ideal for all who can't make the regular Tuesday meeting or need it as a makeup.  It counts as an official Rotary meeting.

The Rome Rotary Mardi Gras Party Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. at the Elks Lodge.  You can still sign up or e-mail Jackie Corbett with your reservation at mcorbett@twcny.rr.com  Cost:  $5 per person.  The club will be providing meat, pasta and roast potatoes along with beer, wine and soda.  Members attending are asked to bring a dish (salad, dessert, appetizer, or side dish) or paper products.  Mardi Gras recipes are certainly encouraged.  A king and queen will be crowned and reign over the festivities.  Guests are also welcome – this is a great way to introduce someone to Rome Rotary.

Keith Butters heads up our mentoring program for new members and is seeking more mentors.  Please contact Keith.

Board Meetings will be Third Monday of the Month at Savoy Restaurant at 5:15 p.m.

Program – Oneida County District Attorney

 Scott McNamara

Rome Rotary welcomed Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara as the program today.  Scott started out his career at the District Attorney’s office a number of years ago working right here in Rome City Court.  He moved up through the ranks and has prosecuted numerous high profile cases in his time at the District Attorney’s office and now heads the office.  He talked about the many facets of what it takes to prosecute a case from arrest through trial.  He discussed the standards of proof, the constitutional checks and balances and the many other procedural aspects of a case such as the felony hearing, plea bargaining, trial and sentencing.  Thank you Scott for a great program!
