Rotary Stuff
One
of the interesting bylaws of Rotary International provides that "no
Rotarian shall campaign, canvass or electioneer for elective position in Rotary
International." This provision includes the office of district governor,
Rotary International director, R.I. president and various elected committees.
The Rotary policy prohibits the circulation of brochures, literature or letters
by a candidate or by anyone on behalf of such a candidate.
After
a Rotarian has indicated his intention to be a candidate for one of the
elective Rotary offices, he must refrain from speaking engagements, appearances
or publicity that could reasonably be construed as furthering his candidacy.
The only information, which may be sent to clubs relating to candidates for an
elective position is that officially distributed by the general secretary of
R.I.

The Thursday After Hours meeting is ideal for all who can't make the regular

The Rome Rotary Mardi Gras
Party Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. at the Elks Lodge. You can still sign up or
e-mail Jackie Corbett with your reservation at mcorbett@twcny.rr.com Cost: $5 per person. The

certainly encouraged. A king and queen will be crowned and reign over the

someone to Rome Rotary.

seeking more mentors. Please contact

Program – Bill Wolf, Griffiss Institute
Rome Rotarian Bill Wolf gave a very thorough and interesting presentation
on the Griffiss Institute. He
stated that the mission was to bring industry, academia and the government/Air
force together to develop solutions in dealing with cyber security issues. He said they facilitate research to
foster economic growth by advancing the study and facilitation of research and
disseminating information. They
are a facilitator between the government and the private sector and the only
Partnership Intermediary with an associated incubator facility. He also spoke of the STEM initiative, a
program to get youth interested in science, technology, engineering and
math. They have programs in
several area schools such as RFA, Rome Catholic and Westmoreland, such as the
Robotics program. This is yet another
treasure that we have right here in our backyard. Thanks Bill!
