Rotary Information
Opportunities for
Fellowship — Most
Rotarians are successful professional and business executives because they hear
opportunities knock and take advantage of them. Once a week, the opportunity
for Rotary fellowship occurs at each club meeting, but not all members hear it
knocking.
The weekly club meeting is a
special privilege of Rotary membership. It provides the occasion to visit with
fellow members, meet visitors and new members, and share personal friendship
with other members.
Rotary clubs that have a
reputation for being “friendly” clubs usually follow a few simple steps.
Members are encouraged to sit in a different seat or at a different table each
week or to sit with a member they may not know very well. Members are asked to
invite new members or visitors to join their table and share the conversation
rather than merely eating in silence or talking privately to the person next to
them. To further enhance club fellowship, Rotarians should also make a special
point of trying to get acquainted with all members of the club.
When Rotarians follow these
easy steps, an entirely new opportunity for fellowship knocks each week. Soon,
Rotarians realize that warm friendship is the cornerstone of every great Rotary
club.

Announcements
and Events
· Duck tickets for Canalfest are being distributed by Dave Kobernuss. Canalfest is our club’s biggest fund raiser, and the Duck Race is a major part of the event. Success depends on the participation of each member of the club. Please sell those tickets and help Rome Rotary to continue providing the quality programs that we have brought to the community in past years. If you need an explanation of the duck race, have other questions or need more tickets, please contact Dave.
· Our newest international student will arrive in Rome in August from Venezuela as part of the RI Youth Exchange Program. Host parents are needed to provide a home and family for Juan Carlos Rincon Moreno for three to four months. This is a wonderful and enriching opportunity to personally participate in international friendship and understanding. Hosts families do not need to be Rotarians. Please contact Chris or Nancy Neiley, nneiley@aol.com, 827-4303.
· The Rome Rotary Summer Picnic will be held at Sylvan Beach this Sunday, 28 Jun. Party barges will cruise up Fish Creek and the Erie Canal. President Ron will email directions. If you are not on the email list, you can call him for that information.
· District 7150 Changing of the Guard Dinner will be held at Dibbles Inn on 30 Jun — $35 per person. See PE Bob Herrmann or Secretary Dennis for more information.
· Dues for 2009–10 are due by 1 Jul. The RRC will match the first $100 of any new Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member. (See Dennis for dues. See Bill Tuthill for information on The Rotary Foundation.)
· Editors Note: if you read this and contact Secretary Dennis at schonewetter@west-point.org or 334-2497, your name will be entered into a drawing for a fabulous, Rotary-related gift at next week’s meeting!

USAF Computer Technology
Dr. Richard Linderman (AFRL)
Dr.
Linderman is the Senior Scientist for Advanced Computing Architectures, Information
Directorate, Air Force Research Laboratory. He is responsible for initiating,
planning, coordinating, evaluating and conducting research and development in advanced
computing architectures to enhance Air Force capabilities.
Rich describes his work as a growing piece of the technological base that functions to keep the “technology push moving forward.” He encouraged us to take a look at the impact of computational science on the community. The possibilities for use are endless and go far beyond supporting the intelligence community.
He noted that the computer system at the AFRL is probably the largest interactive supercomputer in the world. One of the many functions of this system is security, exploring intellectual properties of the components to insure trust and confidence in the technology itself.
The material Rich presented just could not be captured in so brief a summary. It was one of those that “you just had to be there.”
“Thank you” Rich for a very interesting program.
