Call to Order & Roll Call (Quorum = 8): PE Herrmann called the meeting to order at 12:05 PM.

Previous Minutes (Townsend): The minutes of the last meeting were approved as written.

President’s Report (Townsend): No report.

Secretary’s Report (Schonewetter):

·    Member proposals. None.

·    Leaves of absence. None.

·    Resignations. None.

·    Other matters.

District 7150 Assembly on 16 May. Bird, Graves, Herrmann WR, Kobernuss, Latimer, Packer, Schonewetter De, Schonewetter Do, Townsend, Tuthill K, and Tuthill W are signed up to attend.

2009–10 Dues amount. The Board decided unanimously that dues for 2009–10 will be $200 with a 10% discount if paid before mid June.

The Board would like to have five copies of the Board Minutes and Treasurer’s Report put out at the Tuesday meeting immediately following the Board meeting. A copy should also be made available at the Thursday night meeting.

It was noted by the Board that it has been the Club’s practice to send a flower display valued at about $50 when a member of the club has a death in their immediate family. The Treasurer and Secretary usually coordinate this transaction, and it is done without the immediate approval of the Board. Such actions are reported to the Board by the Treasurer at the next regular meeting of the Board. The Board directed that this practice be modified to make a donation of $50 in lieu of flowers if so requested in the obituary.

Treasurer’s Report (Latimer): The Treasurer’s Report was received and duly recorded.

Area Reports:

·    Membership (Carey). (Recruiting, orientations, inductions, and mentoring.) The Why Join Rome Rotary brochure has been updated and copied for use by Club Members and at the RACC Home Show later this month.

·    Public Relations (Mattacola). PP Greg noted that his letter to Daily Sentinel Editor was published with errors in both email and website. The correction was printed several days later, but not on the Editorial Page. VP Fusco requested a copy of the letter, and said that he will have it published in the Rome Observer. Also noted: Father Philip Hearn’s letter in the newspaper praising Rotary and its good deeds.

·    Club Administration (Fusco).

Web Browser Toolbar Fund Raiser Discussion (Herrmann). A “how to” was suggested for a meeting soon, to demonstrate the use of the toolbar to members. PE Herrmann will present this instruction. This presentation will be brief and not an entire program.

New Fundraising Project Ideas (Fusco). A concert at Capitol Theater is in the works. Other suggestions from the floor included: a booth at the Rome Garage Sale and the Taste of Rome. There will be a Pasta Dinner at the Franklin Hotel on Sunday (5/31). Rocco Versace is the chairman. There will be more details as they are available. The fundraiser will be for scholarships and teachers.

RRC 90th Anniversary on 1 Dec 2009 — Celebration? (Occhipinti). PDG Mike has reported that he is working with the Beeches on the details.

D&O Insurance Report (Herrmann). The policy has been selected and the premium payment submitted. $1 million in coverage effective immediately, for $338.50 for the rest of this calendar year. PE Bob is researching a different policy through the District which will reduce the premium to under $200. Bob was thanked by the Board for his work on this project.

·    Club Projects (Herrmann).

Interact Club at RFA (Herrmann/Neiley N). The RFA Interact Club is sponsoring a guitar concert on 4/23 at RFA to raise money for the Haiti Water Project.

YE Student Information Update (Herrmann/Neiley N). An inbound student from Venezuela has been designated for 2009–10. There are no details on the student at this time. No outbound student has been selected as yet.

Rotary Reader Program Update (Herrmann/Packer). Packer noted teachers have list of students if regular one is absent, so Reader does not waste a trip. Packer has a list of sub Readers if Reader cannot fulfill their timeslot.

Healthcare Professional of the Year (Carnevale). Carnevale reports nominations will be in newspaper next week.

Roses for the Living (Burns). No report.

Teacher of the Year (Adamo). No report.

  Student Scholarships (Herrmann/Martin). No report.

International Students Day 2009 (Butters). Butters queried Club interest. Response was positive. Butters will seek a co-chairman and contact colleges for a good date.

·    The Rotary Foundation (Tuthill).

Other Old Business: None.

Other New Business:

·    Club Historian Position (Herrmann). The question was asked, “Can history be stored at Historical Society?” No one had an answer. Reportedly, banners are taken there each year. The question was asked, “Who is collecting any current newspaper articles, photos, letters to Editors?” No one had an answer and no one volunteered to be the Club Historian.

·    Cards/Flowers Position (Herrmann). Kay DeSimone doing a fine job. Donna Burch moved to ask Kay to get a substitute when she is not available. 2nd S. Latimer. None opposed.

·    Adirondack Bank is collecting toiletries, movies, drink mixes for military troops. The question was asked, “Are there any Rotary Club members who have family members serving in military to whom we could send these items?” Secretary Dennis was asked to put this in the Club’s newsletter.

·    Grant Request — Rome Safe Schools / Weed & Seed — $250. There are no discretionary funds available to fund this request.
