Call to Order & Roll Call (Quorum = 8): PE Bob Herrmann called the meeting to order at noon.

Previous Minutes (Herrmann): The minutes of the last meeting were approved with one addition (“The 1/30/09 Polio Dinner will be held at The Franklin.”).

President’s Report (Townsend): No report.

Secretary’s Report (Schonewetter):

·    Member proposals. None.

·    Leaves of absence. None.

·    Resignations. Louise Glasso 12/31/08 (too busy); Bob Gulla 12/31/08 (too busy); Nancy Henderson 12/31/08 (retiring); Boguhn 6/30/09 (moved away); Kryczkowski 6/30/09 (work move to Camden).

·    Other matters.

Treasurer’s Report (Graves): Treasurer Missy reported that the Treasurer’s Report for November was not yet available.

Area Reports:

·    Membership (TBD). (Recruiting, orientations, inductions, and mentoring.) We need a Membership Chair! The members of the Board will consider possibilities and inform Secretary Dennis of any possibilities.

·    Public Relations (Mattacola).  The Daily Sentinel and the Rome Observer are both expected to be present at the 12/16 Annual Children’s Christmas Party.

·    Club Administration (Mercurio).

Calendar Lottery for 2009 Discussion (Herrmann). The Club has recently become aware that it is against NYS Law to use the NYS Daily Lottery Numbers for our fundraising purposes. PE Bob Herrmann and PP Greg Mattacola did a significant amount of research and presented the available options at today’s Board Meeting. After much discussion, the Board decided that the best option was to cancel the fundraiser and return the money collected to the people who bought tickets or made donations in lieu of selling tickets. PE Bob Herrmann and Treasurer Missy Graves were directed by the Board to work out the details about how the money is to be returned and report back to all of us when they have a plan of action. The Board will consider doing the Rotary Calendar Fundraiser in accordance with NYS laws or perhaps another fundraiser in the near future, since the calendar lottery has been our main source of non-dues income for many years (other than Canalfest). This will be discussed at the January Meeting.

Club Election Results (Bahr). The election results are: PE/P/PP—Fusco; VP—tie between Mattacola & Mercurio (TBD at the 1/9/09 Bd Mtg); Secretary—Schonewetter; Treasurer—Graves; Directors—Foreman, Kobernuss, & Tuthill.

RRC 90th Anniversary on 1 Dec 2009 — Celebration? (Occhipinti). The planning for this event is proceeding.

2009–10 Major Fundraiser Ideas (Mercurio). No report. It was suggested that since VP Mercurio had job-related difficulty coming to our meetings, that he submit a written report to the January Board Meeting.

·    Club Projects (Herrmann).

Interact Club at RFA — Progress (Herrmann/Neiley N). The Interact Club is planning a fundraiser in the spring to raise money for a water project. The club was going to attend the Annual Children’s Party, but Party Chair Grace Bottini was concerned about the amount of space at the Polish Home. Grace volunteered to check with the Polish Home and will be in contact with Secretary Dennis about if there is sufficient space to accommodate up to 14 Interact members. If there is a problem, Dennis will contact Interact Chair Nancy Neiley ASAP.

YE Student Information & Host Families Update (Herrmann/Neiley N). No report.

Rotary Reader Program Update (Herrmann/Packer). There are now eight Rotarians serving as Rotary Readers.

Healthcare Professional of the Year (Carnevale). Nothing new to report.

·    The Rotary Foundation (Tuthill).

Pennies-for-Polio Update (Tuthill/Corbett). Occhipinti reported that more than $600 was donated by school children.

Polio Dinner on 30 Jan 09 (Occhipinti). PDG Mike believes that the event will be a sell-out. The price will be $15 per person.

Other Old Business: None.

·    Donation Request — Rome Youth Hockey Association — $2,000 (Mattacola/Till). Mattacola is still checking.

Other New Business:

·    Donation request — Toys for Tots — no amount specified (Carnevale). The Board approved $250 with one negative vote.

Adjourn:

The meeting was adjourned at 1:15 PM. The next regular meeting of the Board will be at noon on 9 January 2009 at The Savoy or The Franklin (to be decided early next month).

Respectfully submitted,

Dennis R. Schonewetter
Rome Rotary Club Secretary (Past President, 2001–2002)
