Call to Order & Roll Call (Quorum = 8): President Townsend called the meeting to order at noon.

Previous Minutes (Townsend): The minutes of the last meeting were approved one correction (“Ann” changed to “Erin”).

President’s Report:

·    President Ron briefly discussed his Rotary District 7150 Map Project.

·    He also proposed moving the September Board Meeting to 9/19 because of the 9/12 timing conflict with the District Conference — the date change was approved.

·    Ron is planning a special Veteran’s Day meeting in November. More details will be provided closer to the event.

·    President Ron reminded everyone that the first Social Hour event of his year will be at 5:00 PM on 18 Sep at the Beeches, to be followed by a short meeting of the Club at 6:00 PM.

Secretary’s Report (Schonewetter):

·    Member proposals. Daniel L. Faldzinski, Plumley Engineering (Till) — approved.

·    Leaves of absence. Leslie Taylor until September (family illness) — approved.

·    Resignations. Kehoe (lack of interest), LaRue (moving away) — noted.

·    Other matters.

Ø District 7150 Conference — Alexandria Bay, 12–14 Sep. Ron & Janet Townsend.

Ø Rome Rotary Website/Webmaster Discussion (w/ PE Herrmann). Bob Herrmann is redesigning the RRC Web Page. He plans to make small changes to make it more functional. Club members will be encouraged to review the new Web Page and give their comments to Bob Herrmann.

Treasurer’s Report (Graves): No report.

Ø 2008-09 Amended Budget Discussion & Approval (w/President Townsend). Deferred until September Board Meeting.

Area Reports:

·    Membership (Burch). Donna Burch said she was forming a small committee to focus on member recruitment.

·    Public Relations (Mattacola). No report.

·    Club Administration (Mercurio). No report.

·    Club Projects (Herrmann).

Ø Interact Club at RFA — Progress (Herrmann/Neiley N). Even with school not in session Erin Hall, the RFA Interact Club president, did participate in Canalfest — she painted faces with Laurie Fusco and Karin Tuthill. Nancy Neiley reports that a field trip may be on next year’s agenda. The students would have to acquire points to be eligible to go.

Ø YE Inbound Student Information & Host Families (Herrmann/Neiley N). The incoming student, Simon Kristensen, is from Denmark and will be arriving Sunday. He will initially be staying with Richard and Linnea Linderman. We are targeting a 26 Aug date for a visit to the Rotary meeting for introduction to the club. Football practice may make this difficult, in which case we will target a later date.

Ø Canalfest ’08 Report (Kobernuss). Early results are all positive. A final report is not available since very few bills have been received or paid. It was estimated that more than 25,000 people attended.

·    The Rotary Foundation (Tuthill). No report.

Other Old Business:

·    RRC 90th Anniversary on 1 Dec 2009 — Celebration? (Occhipinti). No report.

Other New Business:

·    Donation Request — Crop Walk — $500 (Carnevale). Approved.

·    Books for Rotary Reader Students — $226.06 (Packer). Approved.

·    Grace Bottini proposed more financial support for Donna Burch’s backpack project. An additional $500 was approved by the Board which Donna will request if she needs it. It was also decided that the backpack project will now be called a “Rotary Project.”

Adjourn:

The meeting was adjourned at 12:55 PM. The next regular meeting of the Board will be at noon on 19 September 2008 at the Savoy Restaurant.

Respectfully submitted,

Dennis R. Schonewetter
Rome Rotary Club Secretary (Past President, 2001–2002)
